Detox your Body & Detox Your Skin.
Happy New Year! We’re well into January, but our bodies are still recovering from the holidays. From consuming lots of sweets, to guzzling eggnog, to enjoying a couple extra adult beverages, to full-on food comas, it’s not too late for post-holiday detoxing to start this new decade healthy.
First step, WATER. Then more water. Then more water after that. Water flushes out the toxins that have built up in your body. Consider adding lemon, as lemon aids in digestion, and healthy digestion translates to healthy skin. Plus, lemon is an excellent source of vitamin C.
If you need a break from water, try some green tea. The green tea plant is full of antioxidants, which improves liver function for the ultimate detox. Other teas to try? Fennel tea before and after meals to keep your metabolism moving and reduce bloating. Chamomile, ginger, and peppermint tea all contain ingredients to support anti-inflammatory and detoxifying.
Keep in mind that coffee is not your friend during a detox, but dandelion root tea, which tastes similar to coffee, is an excellent replacement for coffee fiends.
As for food, detox-friendly foods include green veggies like kale, brussels sprouts, and cabbage, avocado, quinoa, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, bananas, wild caught salmon, and whole food carbs like sweet potatoes and bell peppers. Avoiding inflammatory foods like gluten, wheat, dairy, and sugar is a good trick to keep in mind.
Rounding out the detox is--you guessed it--exercise! Working out improves blood flow, carrying oxygen and nutrients to cells throughout your body. Worried about breaking out from sweating? All of the detox tips above should help, since a healthy gut leads to radiant skin. But make sure you take off your sweaty clothes and hop in the shower as soon as possible after exercising. What’s better? Exercise leads to better sleep so you’re recharged when you wake up and do it all again.
